Introducing the Mike Varney Physiotherapy team…

          

           

Director & Founder

Mike joined the Army in 1965 and became a member of the Army Physical Training Corp. During his army career he trained as a remedial gymnast and developed an interest in musculoskeletal treatment and sports injuries. Mike then joined Tottenham Hotspur in 1975 where he remained for 11 years as principal physiotherapist. During this time he became a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. He was easily recognised when he ran onto the pitch as First Team Physiotherapist due to long, dark hair and beard!  In 1976, Mike started the first of his private physiotherapy clinics which was subsequently followed by two further practices.

After leaving Spurs in 1986, a two year spell with Standard Telephone Cables followed. This position was to ensure the health and fitness of the executive board members. A two year contract with Queens Park Rangers Football Club as Consultant Physiotherapist followed. Since then Mike’s physiotherapy career has led to many exciting opportunities having worked with many celebrities and he was the physiotherapist on two film productions. Most of Mike’s time is now spent at the Mike Varney Physiotherapy Clinic at Harlow Leisurezone where he specialises in musculoskeletal and sports injuries.

As a Partner in Mike Varney Physiotherapy, Sarah is responsible for Marketing and the general enquiries made to the clinic. She is an integral part of the administrative team.
 
Sarah is also a qualified massage therapist and member of The Federation of Holistic Therapists and ideally suited to arrange the Complementary Therapies within the Mike Varney Therapy Suite.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
  

Physiotherapist

BSc (Hons) MCSP HPC AACP
Mikaela qualified from Keele University, Staffordshire in 2010 with a 1st Class Honours degree in Physiotherapy. She has completed courses in Spinal Mobilisation and Acupuncture in order to have greater diversity in treatment options. Mikaela’s area of interest is musculoskeletal injuries, in particular sports injuries as she has an interest in a wide range of sports.
 
Mikaela has a great love of winter sports, especially skiing as she competed internationally for many years in alpine ski racing before choosing physiotherapy as her profession. In her spare time she enjoys travelling, cooking, yoga and exercising.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Administration Assistant

Physiotherapist

BSc (Hons) MCSP HPC AACP
Gareth studied physiotherapy at Keele University, graduating with first class honours. A member of the chartered society of physiotherapy and registered with the health professions council, Gareth has taken postgraduate courses in acupuncture, thai massage and is one of the first physiotherapists in the UK to recieve training in the POLD method for low back pain and sciatica.
 
Gareth's interest in a physiotherapy career began several years ago following a couple of serious injuries whilst playing rugby at a high level. During the time, he was a member of the London Wasps Academy and represented the Welsh Exiles. When he started ar university he switched his main sporting activity to moxed martial arts for which he now trains several days a week. He is also an advanced PADI qualified diver.
 
Gareth brings not only passion and dedication to his chosen profession but also a keeness to continually develop his skills to ensure that all this patients recieve the best physiotherapy.

 Physiotherapist
BSc (Hons) MCSP HPC AACP

Matt qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from Brunel University with a BSc (Hons) in 2006.  He has undertaken post graduate training in spinal manipulation, visceral manipulation and ultrasound scanning. He is a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapy (AACP). Before joining the clinic he spent a number of years of working in the NHS and has experience working in a wide range of clinical areas including neurology, community outpatients, orthopaedics, respiratory and surgical.  He has a keen interest in musculo-skeletal treatment in conjunction with manual therapy and is currently working towards a Masters Degree in Osteopathy in order to have greater versatility in patient treatment. He is a an enthusiastic martial arts practitioner with a 1st Dan in Aikido, a keen motor cyclist and trains regularly at Harlow Leisurezone.

 

Sports Therapist

 

Annabel is enjoying the opportunity to spend a year on placement with the clinic having completed her second year at the University of Hertfordshire studying Sports Therapy. She is able to observe and practice the skills she has acquired so far under supervision. She is a member of the Society of Sports Therapists.

 

Annabel is a qualified Level 2 Swimming Teacher, Level 2 Fitness Instructor and is qualified in First Aid. Her hobbies include swimming, horse riding, skiing and kayaking.
